Senate to probe Obasanjo, Jonathan, El Rufai over Abuja land grab, threatens to send those found guilty to Kuje prison

The Senate Committee on Federal Capital Territory has vowed to probe former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan as well as former ministers of the FCT and now governor of Kaduna state, El Rufai, over allegations of Land grabbing during their tenures in office.

Chairman, Senate Committee on Federal Capital Territory, Senator Dino Melaye who spoke to journalist in Abuja yesterday February 10th, said the probe will not exempt any former Minister of the FCT or President, adding that as a government of change, it was prepared to send any one found guilty to Kuje Prison.

Melaye alleged that former FCT ministers allocated green areas designed for flood drains, city buffers, recreations, urban farming, reserved land and undevelopable areas to themselves and their friends.

“With this administration of change, it is no longer going to be business as usual. Permit me to remind FCT administration again by stating that this committee will not hesitate to ensure that all administrative anomalies, misappropriation of funds or misapplication of laws as the case may be, occasioned by the past administrations of FCT, are fully addressed. This is what justice demands in these circumstances; to right the wrongs. Therefore, the committee is worried and frowns on satanic and misleading advice and recommendation to convert very important and beautiful natural endowments or features which are very scanty like the world acclaimed Maitama Hills, popularly known as Ministers’ Hills, which could serve as a tourist attraction to the residents of FCT. I want to state here again that if the bourgeois of this country need a special allocation, a new district can be dedicated to them and not destroy the beauty of the city centre, a national monument like the Maitama Hills.”he said

Woman attacked and mauled to death by pit bulls

Suraya Chantell Pillay endured an excruciating death after she was savagely mauled to death by Pit Bull terriers in the early hours of Saturday, February 6, near a local drug den off Rucklen Place, South Africa. The 30-year-old from Oakbridge sustained deep wounds to her neck, chest and arms and deep lacerations to the bone on both her legs.
The Phoenix Sun made contact with her bereaved family and spoke to her sister, Angel Pillay.
"She was good person and even though she had a drug habit, she would work by doing odd jobs to support it. She was a very generous and kind person."
The deceased had allegedly been an addict for at least seven years and was known to frequent the area where her body was found. According to members of her family, she stopped going there for a few months and only recently returned- and they are not sure why.
Pillay would leave the house in the morning and always returned at night by 9pm and seldom at midnight, but never after. The family are at a loss to understand why she would have stayed out after the curfew that she had kept in recent months.
Witness reports at the scene of the incident have been confusing and conflicted. According to South Africa Police Service (SAPS), a witness called the police after they heard a woman scream and they managed to chase the dogs away. Phoenix communication office said:
"The witnesses claim that they discovered the victim being attacked by several dogs that only left the victim alone after stones were thrown at them. The dogs are currently unidentified and no witnesses have come forward to identify the dogs or the owner."
A witness who claimed to have been present at the scene alleges that the victim was completely naked, except for a brown cloth covering her private area. This fact is extremely significant to her sister who says that Suraya left the house that morning wearing blue jeans and a long sleeved black top- which has not been located.
The family claim to have received mixed versions of what took place on the night their sister died. There are still many unanswered questions and the identity of the dog and the owner is yet to be confirmed. Ms Pillay said,
"We hope that people who know who is responsible will come forward and name the pet owner responsible for this. My sister did not deserve to die this way." Ms Pillay said.
There have been no arrests or charges laid.

British boy believed to be aged four and nicknamed 'Junior Jihadi' has been filmed blowing up three prisoners in the latest grisly execution video released by the Islamic States.

In exploitative footage that is shocking even by Isil’s standards, Isa Dare, whose mum, Grace Khadija Dare is a convert to Islam who has sworn allegiance to the jihadist group, is seen pressing a button on what appears to be a remote control device seconds before a car containing four alleged “spies” goes up in a ball of flames.
Wearing a black Isil headband and military-style fatigues, the boy announced to the camera beforehand that “we are going to kill the kuffars (non-believers) over there”. He is then seen standing beside the car’s burnt-out remains, triumphantly punching the air and shouting: "All

Judge says EFCC hasn't erred in detaining Dasuki after meeting bail conditions

Justice Husseini Baba of the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Maitama, Abuja, yesterday February 8th, said the Federal government and operatives of the EFCC have not in anyway violated court order following his continued detention even after meeting his bail condition.

At the hearing of an application by Dasuki asking the court to stop DSS from detaining him, the presiding judge, Justice Baba, said his continued detention by DSS is not in anyway a contempt of court proceeding as he was arrested on fresh charges by the DSS the day he fulfilled his bail condition in December 2015

“At the end, it is my view that the application filed on behalf of the first defendant does not have any merit and I hold so. I therefore dismiss same. From paragraphs 6 and 7 of affidavit in support of this application, it is clear that after the first defendant/applicant satisfied the terms in Exhibit ‘Dasuki 2’ he was released from Federal prisons on December 29, 2015 at this point the order of the court, as far as I am concerned, which was directed at the Comptroller of Prisons, was in my view complied with. If the EFCC re-arrested the first defendant thereafter, it makes, subject to the circumstances of such arrest, an interference with due administration of justice but it cannot be a disobedience to the order of the court to release the applicant on bail. The reason is because in making the order of bail in favour of the first defendant, this court did not make any order against a re-arrest.”he said
The judge ruled that since it had been confirmed that Dasuki was being held by the Department of State Services, DSS, which “is a stranger” in the case, the EFCC which is prosecuting Dasuki and his co-accused could not be said to have violated the bail order. Dasuki is being tried for misappropriation of $2.1 billion arms deal.
